Numbers and Letters!

Theme for Wednesday, October 1: Numbers and Letters

Opening: Open, Shut Them

Book: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

Movement Song: Five Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree; From Strings, Keys, and Melodies

Five little monkeys, swinging in a tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator,
Can't catch me, can't catch me.
Then along comes Mr. Alligator, as quiet as can be
And he SNAPS that monkey right out of the tree

Four little monkeys....
Three little monkeys...
Two little monkeys...
One little monkey...

Transition Song: Touch Your Ears and Touch Your Nose

Book: Eggs 1, 2, 3: Who Will the Babies Be? by Janet Halfmann

Flannel Board Activity: Counting Cakes; FromStorytime Katie

We stacked the cakes in numerical order and then we counted them in English and Spanish.  (They just barely fit on the flannel board!)

Song: A-P-P-L-E; From Library Storytime ABCs

We began by spelling out the word "Apple" and placing the letters on the apples.

Then we sang our song to the tune of the "B-I-N-G-O

There was a farmer had some trees
His apples were so tasty.
A-P-P-L-E
A-P-P-L-E
A-P-P-L-E
His apples were so tasty!

For each verse we sang, I took down an apple, and we clapped instead of saying the letter (just like in BINGO).

Book: The Long, Long Line by Tomoko Ohmura

Song: Jumping and Counting from Jim Gill's Irrational Anthem and More Salutes to Nonsense

Craft: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree

We colored our trees and glued them together.  Then the kids glued on the letters to make it an offical Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree. (Most of them decided to use the letters to spell out their names!)
